Fiat Linea First Drive Review

Fiat Linea Overview

The Italian sense of design and styling is unparallel across the world and the physical proof it is exquisitely cited by Fiat Linea. Designed over the “Centro Stile” platform, Linea is an exclusive piece-of-art that comes with a complete package of power and performance. At present, the sedan is offered with two engine options that include a petrol and a diesel engine. Apart from a beautiful exterior design, Linea incorporates latest safety features and best-in-class comfort features. Fiat presently offers this sedan in five versions that include Active, Dynamic, Dynamic Pack, Emotion, and finally Emotion Pack. Each one of these trims can be availed with diesel and petrol fuel option. The ex-showroom (New Delhi) price of these variants varies between Rs.7.12 lakhs and Rs.9.55 lakhs.

It’s story of elegance starts somewhere from its Maserati like bi-parted grille that is closely guarded by a pair of twin pod lights. This front end smoothly merges into its wheel arches, waistline, and a wide windscreen. The only feature distinguishes between its petrol and diesel version is the placement of ‘Multijet’ badge that lies on left of Fiat’s badge. The rear mirrors the front end as a bright shadow with identical boot lid and bumper along with a cluster of tail lights. On the interior front the car presents a clear picture of Italian style and design. The ergonomically designed cabin speaks a user –friendly language with comfort oriented features such as electrical ORVMs, twin barrel headlamps, centrally integrated music system, USB connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, ample number of storage cubicles, large glove box, and so on.

Linea in every aspect epitomises what Fiat stands for be it design, looks, comfort, or power. The 1.4-litre FIRE and 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine brings the power quotient of this car at par with several other powerful options such as Swift Dzire, Indigo Manza, and a few others. The car is a boon in terms of driving dynamics and handling. The light steering and strong suspension system of the car adds up to the driving pleasure, and the car outclasses several other Indian cars in terms of handling. It is a perfect option in C segment for those looking to drive a vehicle with stunning looks, great design, awe inspiring driving dynamics, and superb power + mileage. Check car loan for Fiat Linea.

Fiat Linea Look

On the looks front, the Fiat Linea 125S looks exactly the same as the regular Linea. The styling looks good and the dimensions of the car feel proportionate. However, in the sea of new competitors entering the market with their bold styling elements, the Linea does feel a bit sobered down. Nothing much has been done to differentiate the 125S trim apart from a badge on the bootlid and front fenders. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed on seeing the car because I was really expecting Fiat to offer the sedan in the same blue shade that was shown at the 2016 Auto Expo. Unfortunately though, that colour isn’t offered even as an option.

Fiat Linea Comfort

The Linea 125 S is very similar to its lesser-powered sibling on the inside, with the exception of a new touchscreen for the infotainment system, replete with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. The dashboard is attractive in design, with a large swath of soft-touch plastic sandwiched between hard, scratchy plastics. The touchscreen is quite tiny, though it is easy to use and features high-definition display. The only grouse is the positioning of the unit itself which is a bit low requiring you to take your gaze quite far off from the road.

One of the Linea’s biggest problems has not been rectified with the 125 S – the poor driver-seating position. The steering wheel juts out too much and the long-travel clutch and other pedals are located too far away, compelling you into a stretched out position. The front seats, however, are large and comfortable. The rear is not the most spacious in the segment, and headroom is particularly tight, and while the seat is generally comfortable, the seatback is a bit flat.

The equipment list is still strong, with navigation, automatic headlights, auto AC and rain-sensing wipers, to name a few. The remote-operable boot is a roomy 500 litres, though access to it is restricted by a narrow and high loading lip.

Fiat Linea Gearbox

The Linea 125S is powered by the same 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet petrol engine which does duty in the Linea T-Jet and Avventura. The Linea 125S gets a higher state of tune, though. The car now churns out 125bhp of power as again 112bhp of he regular Linea T-jet. This is the same engine that also powers the Abarth Punto and the Abarth 595 Competizione, but in different states of tune. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Fiat Linea 125S is a scorcher and an extremely fun to drive machine. Fiat cars are known for their excellent ride and handling and also their precise steering feedback. The Fiat Linea 125S is not any different. This car is squarely aimed at self-driven enthusiasts. To know more information on Fiat Linea vist Stsoft

Get behind the wheel and you will fall in love with it. The Linea T-JET was perfect and this one is just even better. Fiat cars are so much fun to drive and the Linea is another great example of it. The Linea T-JET is one of the most fun cars to drive and own.The Fiat Linea 125S delivers a fuel efficiency of around 10-14 km/l in a mix of city and highway driving.

Fiat Linea Riding

The Fiat Linea has always had good handling but it kind of went for a toss when Fiat increased the car’s ground clearance to 190 mm. Still, it doesn’t disappoint at all and chucking the Linea into corners is fun. It comes shod with Apollo Alnac tyres which offer pretty decent levels of grip. Ride quality is brilliant and the suspension is capable of absorbing most bumps that come your way. The Linea feels comfortable to drive around and doesn’t make you feel tired. Even the brakes have a lot of bite and stopping power is excellent.

Fiat Linea Safety

Braking and safety, both these aspects have been looked well by Fiat in Linea. The halting of front wheels is supported by disc brakes while the rear wheels have been awarded with drum brakes. The larger diameter of disc brakes allows instantaneous deceleration of car while the safety aspect in sudden braking is looked into by Anti Lock braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) system that distributes braking force equally to all four wheels preventing sliding and squealing of tyres. Other measures taken to ensure safety of its passengers include an Anti-theft engine immobilizer, Fire Prevention System (FPS), 3 safety headrests, programmable speed limit that helps controlling speed of the car, digital door open indicator, power steering, and double crank prevention system.

Fiat Linea Bottomline

The Linea was always a good sedan, with decent engines, a solid build quality and lots of Italian flair. Those qualities have carried over to the 125 S, and additionally, now there’s more power, resulting in an even better driving experience, and the oh-so-in-demand touchscreen. Add to this, a competitive price of Rs 10.46 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, recommending one is a tricky affair, because all Fiat cars are ultimately let down by a harrowing ownership experience. The sales and after-sales service infrastructure for Fiat cars are not the best, which is a caveat to bear in mind.
